Schwimmwagen Type 166 — German Amphibious Military Vehicle

The Schwimmwagen Type 166 was a German amphibious military vehicle developed during the Second World War to provide highly mobile transportation across both land and water. Based on the Volkswagen Kübelwagen chassis, it featured a lightweight body, four-wheel drive, and a retractable propeller, making it one of the most capable amphibious vehicles of its time.

Designed to operate in a wide variety of environments, the Schwimmwagen combined excellent cross-country performance with the ability to traverse rivers, lakes, and other water obstacles without external assistance. Its compact size and mechanical simplicity contributed to its outstanding reliability in military service.

More than 14,000 vehicles were produced between 1942 and 1944, serving on every major front of the war.
