9K33 Osa (SA-8 Gecko) — Soviet Self-Propelled Surface-to-Air Missile System

The 9K33 Osa (NATO reporting name: SA-8 Gecko) is a Soviet self-propelled short-range surface-to-air missile system developed in the late 1960s to provide mobile air defense for ground forces. Combining surveillance radar, target tracking radar, and missile launchers on a single amphibious wheeled chassis, the system was designed to engage aerial threats while operating alongside advancing units.

Its 6×6 amphibious chassis, powerful diesel engine, and excellent cross-country mobility allowed the vehicle to operate effectively across a wide range of terrain without requiring additional support vehicles for target acquisition or fire control.

The Osa system was capable of engaging aircraft, helicopters, and later low-flying cruise missiles under various weather conditions, providing highly responsive air defense against rapidly emerging threats.

Adopted by numerous armed forces around the world and produced in several variants, the 9K33 Osa became one of the most recognizable Soviet air defense systems and remains a popular subject among military vehicle enthusiasts and scale modelers.

Wheel installation

The wheels fit directly onto the standard mounting points of the Trumpeter kits without modification.
