3D-Printed Wheel Set (Ordinary) for GAZ-66 by Trumpeter
To make your GAZ-66 model truly convincing, we conducted in-depth research on the real truck’s wheels — studying photographs, blueprints, and available physical references. This allowed us to reproduce them with maximum accuracy: every detail, curve, and imperfection precisely matches the real vehicle.
3D printing enabled a level of detail that traditional rubber wheels simply can’t replicate. The result? A visibly more realistic look on your finished model — lifelike presence, a sense of mass and weight, and highly detailed tread and sidewalls.
This is more than a parts upgrade — it’s a new level of realism that makes your model look like a true miniature replica of an actual truck.
Front Wheel Step (Crown)
The set includes two types of hub step plates — single and double — both of which were historically used on the real GAZ-66. These step plates fit perfectly into their mounting positions.
⚠️ Note: This element should be installed so the inflation tube lines up precisely with the one on the hub.
❓Did you know? The step plate (or crown) is designed to help the driver and passenger climb into the cab more easily.
GAZ-66 review video from the ScaleX
GAZ-66 — The Legendary Soviet 4×4 Military Truck
The GAZ-66 is a full-time 4×4 off-road truck produced from 1964 to 1999. It was widely used by the Soviet Armed Forces and throughout the Eastern Bloc. Thanks to its simple design, reliability, and outstanding off-road capabilities, it became a backbone vehicle for motorized infantry units. Nicknamed “Shishiga,” the GAZ-66 earned a reputation as a rugged and versatile workhorse.
Nearly one million units were produced, and the GAZ-66 remains popular today among military enthusiasts and scale modelers worldwide.
Wheel Installation
The wheels are installed without modification onto the standard mounting points of parts D26+29 and F3.
We recommend lightly sanding the support contact areas with fine-grit sandpaper for the best result.
