Overview

Upgrade your 1/35 D-20 with these highly detailed 3D-printed replacement wheel sets, engineered specifically for the Trumpeter kit. Developed using technical references and period documentation, the sets faithfully reproduce the distinctive IYAV-12B (320-508) or I-78 (12.00-20) military tires used on the D-20.

Each wheel set includes both Ordinary and Weighted wheels, giving you the flexibility to accurately represent the D-20 in different positions. Use the Weighted wheels when displaying the gun in its transport position, with the wheels resting on the ground and carrying the weight of the vehicle. For a D-20 shown in combat position, with the wheels raised above the ground, use the Ordinary wheels with their natural, uncompressed shape.

Two tire options are available: IYAV-12B (320-508) and I-78 (12.00-20). Each set provides both wheel types, allowing you to choose the appropriate tire and wheel configuration for your D-20 model.

Authentic Appearance

The set includes accurately reproduced D-20 wheels and your choice of two distinctive tire types, allowing you to select the configuration that best matches your reference or desired appearance.

  • IYAV-12B (320-508)

Ordinary & Weighted Wheels

Both Ordinary and Weighted wheels are included in each set. Use the Weighted wheels for a D-20 in transport position, or the Ordinary wheels when the wheels are raised above the ground in combat position.

D-20 — Soviet 152 mm Towed Howitzer

The D-20 was a Soviet 152 mm towed howitzer developed in the years following the Second World War and introduced into service in the early 1950s. Designed to provide powerful artillery support at both divisional and corps level, it combined a long-range gun with a robust carriage capable of being towed over difficult terrain.

The D-20 featured a 152 mm gun-howitzer mounted on a split-trail carriage with large pneumatic wheels. Its versatile design allowed it to perform both howitzer and gun missions, providing effective high-angle fire against targets behind cover as well as direct fire when required. The carriage incorporated a substantial recoil system and a protective gun shield for the crew.

For transportation, the D-20 was towed with its wheels resting on the ground and the carriage secured for movement. When deployed in combat position, the carriage was lowered and stabilized, with the wheels raised clear of the ground. This configuration provided a stable firing platform and allowed the artillery piece to absorb recoil forces effectively.

The D-20 entered service with the Soviet Army and was subsequently supplied to numerous allied and partner countries. It saw extensive service in conflicts around the world and remained in active use for many decades. Its powerful 152 mm ammunition and robust construction made it an important component of Soviet and later artillery forces.

With its distinctive split-trail carriage, large wheels, and powerful 152 mm gun-howitzer, the D-20 remains a recognizable Soviet artillery piece and a popular subject among military historians and scale modelers. Its ability to be represented in both transport and firing configurations also provides interesting opportunities for detailed scale model builds.

Wheel installation

The wheels fit directly onto the standard mounting points of the Trumpeter kits without modification.
We recommend lightly sanding the support contact areas with fine-grit sandpaper for best results.
