Kfz.1 Type 170 VK — German Light Staff Car

The Kfz.1 Type 170 VK was a German light military staff car developed in the late 1930s to provide reliable transportation for officers, liaison personnel, and small command groups. Based on the Mercedes-Benz 170 VK passenger car, it combined civilian automotive engineering with military adaptations, resulting in a dependable vehicle suitable for a wide range of support and communication duties.

Designed for mobility and ease of operation, the Kfz.1 featured a lightweight construction, rear-wheel drive, and a robust suspension that allowed it to travel on both paved roads and unimproved terrain. Its compact dimensions and dependable mechanical design made it well suited for staff transport and liaison missions throughout the war.

The Type 170 VK served with numerous branches of the German armed forces and was employed in a variety of operational roles, from headquarters transportation to courier and reconnaissance duties. During its service life, the vehicle was fitted with several military wheel and tire combinations, including the characteristic Geländereifen (5.25-16) tires used on many examples.

With its elegant pre-war styling, historical significance, and distinctive military modifications, the Kfz.1 Type 170 VK remains a popular subject among military vehicle enthusiasts and scale modelers seeking to recreate German staff vehicles of the Second World War.

Wheel installation

The wheels fit directly onto the standard mounting points of the Miniart kits without modification.
We recommend lightly sanding the support contact areas with fine-grit sandpaper for best results.
